Providing Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption Information & Consultation
WORKSHOP:
Implementing the Hague Convention
Overview & Learning Objectives
Adoption placement providers are currently responding to rapid changes taking place in intercountry adoption regulation under the Hague Convention for Intercountry Adoption. All agencies engaged in intercountry adoption placement activities must either comply with standards of practice or cease to continue to engage with other Hague signatory nations such as China. Agency accreditation will require a number of changes in practice that will insure appropriate practices. From an agency perspective, there are a variety of complexities that must be considered. This includes the practices of US agencies and their engagement in sending countries. The workshop will cover practice standards and what to expect when being evaluated for accreditation. In addition, ‘real-life’ issues associated with global adoptions will be discussed, using case examples for critical analysis.
